Pau d'Arco is an herb obtained from the inner bark of Tabebuia trees, also known as taheebo. Pau d'Arco is native to Central and South America, but may also be grown in other areas, such as southern Florida.
Pau d'Arco is typically taken in the form of tea or tincture, however it is also available in tablets, capsules and other forms.
Clinical studies have shown strong in vitro activity by Pau d'Arco against bacteria, fungi and yeast. Perhaps the most famous amongst these is Candida Albicans, the cause of yeast infections, including oral thrush. Others affected include: Aspergillus, Bucella, dysentery, Helicobacter pylori (a cause of stomach ulcers), Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, pneumonia and tuberculosis.
